I rewatched La Belle Personne recently. I forgot how much I loved it, in fact, I think I even liked it better this time. It's a wonderful yet disturbing film about love, longing, anxiety and jealousy. I think it's a pretty intense movie, I couldn't help but feel sad afterwards. Also noteworthy are the costumes, I loved every single look, as often is the case when watching French films. Oh, and Louis ofcourse, why weren't my teachers that good looking?

yes, why? :(
ReplyDeleteinderdaad een mooie film. het is weer even geleden, denk dat ik hem binnenkort weer kijk.
I really like this film, it hasn't been released on dvd where I live so I had to download it without english subtitles and my french it not fluent so it was hard to understand at times.. I recognise a lot of the clothes Junie wears are A.P.C..
ReplyDeleteIf I meet someone as good looking as Louis Garrel, I would hope he is not my teacher haha
i just watched this lovely film after reading your post. i always love louis garrel of course. i thought the whole thing was so nice to look at, but as most french romances are, the plot is unbelievable and underdeveloped... which isn't to say that i didn't like it... because i did. but i couldn't help but wonder why it was never a problem that louis was messing around with his students. in america he would have been fired in a second!
ReplyDeletei'm going to have to start watching the films you post about! i struggle to find films i want to watch but you seem to have such good taste.
ReplyDeleteAh I adore this film! Have you seen Dans Paris? Isn't it lovely! :)

Never seen this movie, I need to watch it.
ReplyDeleteAbout the Chanel flats, they are definitely worth the money, I have two pairs my oldest one is more than three years old, you won't believe how much i've used them and they hold on perfectly. The quality is amazing and they are so comfortable.
If you can't afford them right now I would advise you save for them, at the end it will be better to get one pair that will last for years, than a cheap pair of flats than you will have to replace often.
Hope it helps!
xx
I can't find this movie! and I am so disappointed, because I've heard about it sooo many times, and after The Dreamers (Bertolucci's movie) I realy like main actor. Have you got any idea, where can I find this movie?

K.

Sorry for the late replies! There's something wrong with blogger's email notification and it's comment system... :s
ReplyDeletebloesem: Goed plan! ;)
Alex: Yes, I recognized the pieces from A.P.C. as well! I especially like the sweater in the 9th picture. I love that she wore just a few different outfits as oppossed to other movie wardrobes where the characters never seem to wear an item twice, haha!
That's really good of you, watching the film without subtitles! Watching a movie in French without subtitles, goes a bit too fast for me to undertand fully. Hm, I actually should keep on practising my french, it would be such a waste of all those years French in high school otherwise. ;)
And yes, you're right! That would be so awkward, having a teacher as hot as Louis! :p
vintageveggie: I agree! That's often the case indeed in French films, they often leave me thinking 'this was it?'. They're visually beautiful, but the plot isn't that good, but at the same time I think that's what I like about French films.
The French are very different when it comes to sex etc. than Americans, the Dutch etc. It seems as if they're more liberal and accept more when it comes to sex. For example, the editor in chief of the Dutch Elle was a guest in a Dutch tv show recently, and she confessed that her French bosses would reach into her blouse and touch her during a party, like it's the most normal thing to do... But not all French men are like that ofcourse. ;)
Kate: Thank you! I'm thinking of doing posts about films I like more often. :)
Simona: Yes, I've seen it! I liked it a lot as well! Chansons d'Amour is lovely, too. ;)
Trini: Thank you so much for your answer! I guess I need to start saving up!
makowa and Isa: I'm sorry but I have no idea!:( I'm actually quite schocked that Amazon doesn't have the film in stock! A Dutch onlineshop has it though, so if you want to see it really badly I can order it for you, and send it you. :)
sabenaranja: Thank you!
Milly: You should!;) Louis and Lea are both wonderful in it!

i love, love, love this film (and not only for introducing me to lea and louis). a heartbreaking melancholy of teenage angst.
ReplyDeleteHaha love what you've said about the teachers... I was thinking the same while watching the film ;) I've watched last year and I felt in love with it. Great film that shows a lot of emotions, and Léa is flawless on it, what a gorgeous girl she is and a great actress. And Louis of course, he's awesome (L)
