After months of waiting, Somewhere finally went in premiere here, last Thursday. I had high expectations of the movie and I can't say I was dissapointed, I liked it a lot. Although the movie was a bit too silent and slow for me sometimes, it was visually quite beautiful. Somewhere is definitely a movie I'd like to rewatch sometime!
If you've seen it, what did you think of it?

I recently saw it and I loved it. It was definitely a quiet film but I liked that aspect of it. In the new American Vogue, there's a great editorial by Bruce Weber with Natalia Vodianova at the Chateau Marmont with actors, including Elle Fanning.
ReplyDeletelove it! elle fanning is beautiful and adorable. much better than her sister :)
ReplyDeletecheck out my blog and etsy! i put up a spring lookbook for it.

those are great images. I would love to see that movie.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded it last weekend and loved it as well, it still hasn't been released in little old new zealand yet. I found the slowness and quietness nice actually, I think Sofia is really good at evoking a quiet mood. Its really her trademark along with the minimal dialogue, which she seems to be critiqued for quite a bit. It was defiantly more grown up than her other films, more 'dark'.
ReplyDelete...Also, I think I read somewhere that they used 35mm film and the Zeiss lenses that Francis Ford Coppola shot Rumble Fish with, which gave it the soft quality.
Glad to see you updating more = ) your blog is one of my favorites
I definitely want to see it now, based on that eggs benedict picture! I love films that double as food and clothing porn.
ReplyDeleteI really liked "Somewhere", even though it's not my favorite film by Sofia.
ReplyDeleteVisually speaking, Sofia always manages to impress (a lot).
I thought it was visually stunning. I enjoy the quiet contemplative aspect of Coppola's films although I think the car maybe went round the race track one too many times in the opening!!

Mmm, nog niet gezien, maar ziet er fijn uit.
ReplyDelete@Alexandra, totally agree about the sloooow opening. But other than that, i liked it. And I had eaten brunch at Chateau Marmont the day I watched it, which made it extra special :)
ReplyDeleteIts my favorite!
