The last couple of weeks have been rather busy. Luckily I can take it easy until my exams start next month.
Anyway, ever since I purchased my beloved Marant boots back in February, I haven't bought anything apart from the things pictured above. Not spending any money on clothing and such actually feels rather good. Although my wardrobe is seriously lacking of some 'essentials' and there are quite a few things that need to be replaced, I don't really feel the urge to buy any new clothing. However, I did replace my beaten up chucks for a fresh pair yesterday, after postponing the much needed replacement for nearly two years. I might do a post about items that need to be replaced and maybe I'll post a list of things that I hope to acquire this spring/summer, too.
Alexandra from Her Ribbons and Her Bows and M. from 312 both inspired me to try out bright pink lipstick. At first I was a bit hestitant because I didn't think the colour would suit me, but I was actually pleasently suprised after trying it on, yesterday. Although red is 'my colour', I'm planning to wear pink lipstick more often.
On a different note, has any of you read Never Let me Go? If so, what did you think of it, and what did you think of the film? I'm currently reading the book and I'm quite excited to see the movie which will go in premiere later this month.

I love your recent buys!! I just got terra incognita as well, have you started it? what do you think of it?
ReplyDeleteI have never read never let me go, I really want to see the film and I can't decide if I should read the book first
I've yet to read the book, but I did see the film last week. It's really touching. I'm a fan of Knightley and Mulligan so it was right up my alley. However, I wish I would have read the book beforehand.
ReplyDeleteLovely chucks, lovely post!
ReplyDeleteMooie kleurtjes lipstick!

I was hesitant about red lipstick at the beginning too, but now looking at myself without it I feel I look bleak and I love how color gives character to my face.
ReplyDeleteI've watched only movie, I loved it. :)
ReplyDeleteI replaced my black chucks last week too! :) I bought a dark gray ones ;) I have 3 different pairs, I love them! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I haven't read Never Let Me Go, but I'd like to, and I'm really excited about the film. I saw Blue Valentine, yesterday, have you seen it? It's a really raw and powerful story.
kisses dear!
Never Let Me Go is one of my favourites, it always seems to find me in rough patches of life and get me through. If it matters any I found the movie wonderful too; they did an amazing job of transferring the atmosphere of the book to the screen. It wasn't totally faithful, but it was still gorgeous (and faithful enough for me). Have you seen the new Jane Eyre yet? I'm desperate to (love Mia Wasikowska or whatever her last name is), but does anyone know if it was any good?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think I said this on Her Ribbons and Her Bows yesterday, but... y'all are making me feel guilty for not getting on this closet-cleanout/organizing/listmaking thing earlier like I meant to! Time to get down to it!
I love Never Let Me Go. Its a beautiful book, if not quite disturbing. The book is more subtle about the 'science' (i dont want to say too much and ruin it for you) part of the story. I would definately recommend reading the book first, but the film is also really good, Mulligan and Knightly are both perfect in the roles xx
ReplyDeletei haven't read the book, but i saw the film and i loved it, i found it interesting, wellmade and makes you think
ReplyDeleteFresh Chucks! I love breaking them in. I like the idea that they're the one shoe I'm confident I'll still be wearing at age 60.
ReplyDeleteNever Let Me Go as a book is lovely, and very accomplished, but it's definitely not my favourite Kazuo Ishiguro book. I missed the movie in the theatres, so hopefully I have a chance to watch that.
Sorry for responding so late to your comments everyone!
ReplyDeleteAlex: Thank you! I started reading Terra Incognita today. I haven't read much pages yet, so I can't really say whether I like it or not. But Nabokov is one of my favourite writers, so I'm pretty sure I'll love TI!
If I were you I'd read the book first. I remember reading Atonement after seeing the movie, and I kind of regretted that. 8) I have to say though that I don't think this is one of these books that you MUST read before watching the movie, at least it wasn't for me...
Like a Cat: Oh, that's good to hear! Knightley and Mulligan are two of my favourites as well! And I know how you feel about regretting seeing the movie before reading the book :p I wish I read 'A Single Man' before seeing the film. I'm still planning to read that book someday though. ;)
Bedankt, Grijze Dagen en Evelien!
Robin: Oui, ik zit in m'n examenjaar(havo)!;)
Ginta: I thought exactly the same before trying out red lipstick! I love the look but the downside of bright lipstick is that it has to be re-applied etc. and I have to check if it isn't all over my face after a couple of hours, lol.
I'm glad you loved the film! I can't wait to see it in a couple of weeks. :)
Mara: I love the gray ones, too! I hope my sister will get them, so I can borrow them from her sometime :p
I really want to see Blue Valentine, unfortunately I missed it in the cinema! I guess I'll have to wait until it's on dvd. :(
leilani.e: Ah, great to hear that you thought the movie was good! I liked NLMG a lot, but for me it isn't a book that really touched me like for example, 'Norwegian Wood' or 'Everything is Illuminated' did.
No, I haven't seen it yet! It isn't in theaters here. I've seen the version with Charlotte Gainsbourg a while ago and I quite loved it. Before I see the remake I want to read the book though!
lavelle: I was actually a bit dissapointed that the book was so subtle about the 'science'. I don't really get why NLMG is labelled as science fiction, I didn't think it was sci-fi at all! Over all, I did enjoy the book.
duermeveland: that's good to hear, thanks!
lin: Exactly! The funny thing is, my 72-year-old grandma told me the other day a couple of times how much see liked my chucks, haha!
What other books do you recommend by Ishiguro? I'd like to read more of his work.
Really!? That's too bad! It isn't even here in theatres yet. I have to wait another two weeks before the premiere of the movie here.
I loved the book, and I'm hesitant to see the movie for that very reason. Let me know if you do see it when you're done with the book and how you think it compares. And I love the bright new chuckies too, I got myself a pair of the white mesh ones recently and I love them!
ReplyDeletehttp://nomadic-d.blogspot.com/
I've never heard about this book
ReplyDeleteneed to read
thanks
I've seen the film "Never Let Me Go" and I've also read the book twice. They're both amazing, according to me. The author loves the movie, and that has got to count for something, right? :)
ReplyDeleteThe book was alright. Didnt really enjoy the plot/story but the writing was brilliant! The only thing that kept me reading...

ReplyDeletelove your blog!!!
Bright pink lips are an accessory in themselves. I've wanted to buy less recently — and I have — but I find my weakness in vintage (and cheap) couture...
ReplyDeleteI will definitely have to try this saving for luxury items things. I think it's wonderful to buy less and really cherish the things you do buy. Love your latest buys.
ReplyDeletewww.fairydah.net
Your recent buys are perfect! The White Converse sneakers are perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love the pink shades of you lipsticks...Are those by NARS?
No...I've never read "Never Let me Go"..is it good?
Nomadic: The premiere is next week, I'll let you know what I thought about it!;)
ReplyDeleteMelwa: It sure does! If I were an author myself, who's work gets to be filmed, I'd absolutely hate it if the director made something totally different. I thought that was a bit the case in HP and the half blood prince... :p
Anonymous: I agree, the whole time I was expecting something to happen, but nothing 'exciting' came. It sure was a pageturner though!
G: Oh well, we all have are weaknesses, haha!;)The most important thing is that you recognize and admit them, I guess.
Faridah: Thanks! You definitely should! It really does pay off in the long run. :)
Joanna: Thank you! The lipsticks are actually by Hema, a Dutch chainstore. They only cost 3 euros!
I have mixed feelings about NLMG... but the others who commented are all very positive about the book, so you should give the book a try!;)
